CUSTOMIZING A LEATHER JACKET
I love a good leather jacket, always have. It's a classic and a staple in anyone's wardrobe. It toughens up any look and is just the easiest piece to throw on and go. I was fortunate enough to have Namesake reach out to me in the summer and offer to make my dream jacket. I don't think I've ever been more excited for a collaboration.
I went into the studio in August and we began customizing. The process of customizing a piece can be overwhelming, but Rosa was there to walk me through each step of the process and help me choose the best jacket for me. I wanted my jacket to be a standout piece, so the options were really endless. Since this was such a special experience, I wanted something really different and unique to me.
I first chose my jacket style. Namesake has 8 different styles to choose from all named after bad ass, influential women (and you know I'm into that). It was a big toss up between the Bonnie and the Yoko but, in the end, I went with the more tailored, shorter cut, the Bonnie. I put on the sample of the jacket and Rosa made sure to get my perfect size and customize anything that I needed for my specific body type and shape.
Then, I chose the leather. I went with a soft lamb leather (a by-product of the food industry!) but there were so many different options, from croc leather to silver leather to burgundy suede, she has a great selection to choose from
Next, was picking all of the little details. I chose a navy lining, a belt, option to have a fur collar, silver hardware, and studding. The studding was the perfect addition to make the piece unique and badass as hell.
HOW TO STYLE THE JACKET
The jacket turned out beautifully and is now one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe. I wanted to show you not only how to style a leather jacket but also ways to style a statement jacket. Sometimes it can be difficult to think of non-plain outfits that will go with a jacket as intense as mine, so here is what I came up with.
CREATIVE OFFICE KINDA VIBE
See the rest of the outfits in my lookbook video, it's done in a Quinten Tarantino vibe so I'd highly recommend you check it out.
Namesake Studio is here in Toronto and is hand made by Rosa herself.
