TRENDIEST JACKETS FOR S/S19
Trendiest Jackets for S/S 2019
Spring is officially here! The weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer which means that the time has finally come to stash away your heavy-duty parkas, ski jackets and any other coats that remind you of the harsh cold and snow (crossing fingers).
For those of us living in a colder climate, you already know that spring is a tricky season when deciding what to wear. Especially in the early weeks of spring, I often find myself either being too hot, too cold, but never just right. I find that it’s important to have transitional pieces in your wardrobe that you can wear in chilly mornings, sunny afternoons and rainy evenings, which is why I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to list the most stylish and practical jackets for spring.
Give your puffer jacket a break and check out the trendiest coats for the spring season!
1. Trench Coat
Trench coats are HUGE this season. I don’t think I could walk downtown without spotting multiple people wearing trench coats. While they are especially handy for those rainy days, you can easily dress them up or down for any occasion and look chic af. If you want to switch things up, I have been seeing a lot of trench coats coming in different styles and patterns this season. From soft spring hues, to leather, patent, and everything in between, don’t be shy this season to get out of your comfort zone and rock a unique twist on a trench coat.
2. Denim Jacket
You know the weather is getting warmer and spring is in the air when you see denim jackets making an appearance. I may be bias, but denim jackets are an essential staple in any wardrobe, as they complete the Canadian tuxedo look. Denim jackets are very versatile and the perfect add on for any spring outfit, as I often reach for my jacket when I am feeling lazy but still want to look put-together and stylish. I found that this season, the classic denim jacket has been revamped. For those wanting to try something different, I have been seeing a lot of denim jackets embracing a more fitted silhouette with belts and have also seen the classic blue denim being opted out for black, white, coloured, or even patterned prints.
3. Cargo & Utility Jacket
Work-wear inspired jackets were everywhere during spring fashion week and they are honestly a great piece to invest in for your spring closet. The neutral colours, durable fabrics and array of pockets make them the perfect transitional jacket for running errands and going to work. As well, utility jackets are pieces that you can easily restyle for the fall season, making them worth the money. Pair a utility jacket with matching cargo pants and you are definitely set for the day.
Long gone are the days where you would only invest in blazers and suits as part of your work or office wardrobe. Blazers are super popular this season as literally everyone is wearing blazers and suits on a casual basis. Paired with jeans and sneakers for a day-time look, or dressed up with a turtle neck at night for when you are grabbing drinks with friends, blazers are a great piece to complete any outfit. If you want to be really on trend this season, style your blazer with a matching short suit and you will be spring ready.
Not only are windbreakers super practical for spring weather, they are also super on trend this season. Elevate your street wear with a windbreaker that will keep you warm and dry during those classic windy and rainy spring days. Since windbreakers are not the warmest jackets, on colder days I would recommend layering a turtleneck or sweater underneath to make sure you stay warm.
6. Leather Jacket
Similar to the denim jacket, a leather jacket is a timeless piece that is needed in every wardrobe. With the weather getting warmer, leather jackets can finally be worn on a night out without you freezing to death. I would recommend splurging a little on a leather jacket because it is a piece you will keep in your wardrobe forever and you want it to have the perfect fit. I have literally worn a leather jacket with almost any outfit, but I have been recently digging over-sized and boxy jackets as oppose to the classic cropped and fitted look.
For anyone living in Toronto, or a similar climate, you know how excited it feels to finally not be bundled up, but actually be able to take some layers off and enjoy the spring weather. I hope you found this list useful and it’s time to get out of hibernation mode and take advantage of the warmer weather with these stylish coats!
